updates [29 Apr 2008|05:17pm]
hmmm been a while since i wrote anything here. there's nothing much to update...things have been a bit of an uphill climb over the last couplea months.

well there is something new i've been up to. i've previously posted some details of a new project called abstract relations. the site has since been updated fortnightly with new mixtapes from me with plans for guest mixes soon.

so do check it out, we've just posted the 5th mix.

a mix [17 Dec 2007|01:09pm]
hola,

i've posted up a mix online, which was a live recording of a set a couplea months back. it's a 2-hour plus mash of techno, house, and some classics. it's a sound i haven't touched for some time already, for reasons i could spend hours ranting about.

ok link is below, it's quite a big file but enjoyable nonetheless (i hope).

make the SWITCH [14 Dec 2007|01:22pm]
hello.

this is pretty fun news. a collaboration with butter factory has resulted in a brand new monthly- SWITCH.

for the first time on a weekend, we're bringing a new sound to the main room. so we have POP/RE/TART & BITCHFIGHT hosting the main room, swapping with BUTTERFLY (that's butter fac's regular sat night party) who will host the Art Bar...hence the term 'SWITCH'.

So...for one saturday a month, the main room will witness a sound romp of elektrodiskobailefunknewavegrungelickylicketybomb. it should turn out less messy as it sounds.

SWITCH's debut party will be on Saturday 22 Dec, with zaidi, dave does, bobby, ritz, and myself in the main room; and butter residents drem and mylk, with beatboxer  dharni and mc goldmountain (this name is so journey to the west!) from hong kong, at the art bar.

anyway here's the logo, done by zaidi.

come visit if you can. :)

later!

a pretty long week... [19 Mar 2006|06:41pm]
[ music | monsieur serge gainsbourg revisited ]

erland oye's dj gig on wednesday night was hugely disappointing. i guess you can't really judge djs from their mixtape releases, which these days, are primarily edited to perfection in the studio. i did enjoy his DJ-Kicks mix a lot, with sprinkles of his vocal interpretations some classic songs. his live set was, to say the least, a huge mess..which turned into a prom scene in one of those 80's teen flicks, or at best...a scene from the wedding singer. throw in a hugely dramatic moment which i shan't really elaborate on, the night turned from zero to sub-zero.

the koc gig the following evening was, however, a fantastic performance. you have, on one side the 'extroverted geek' erland, and the 'serious sensitive' eirik. a beautiful performance which was held in an amazing venue with fantastic acoustics. i guess i wasn't the only one there that was wowed by their performance and their light-heartedness.

fast forward to the poptart segment at esplanade's outdoor theatre. i've always had my doubts performing there, due to the restrictions they always impose on people, which is a little discomforting. restrictions which i thought might unsettle people and turn the party into some kinda boring farce. and furthermore it's on a thursday night this time, and people might have better things to do (ie. get some sleep for work/school the next day).

fortunately, my fears disappeared when i saw the turn out. and a public appearance by erland himself, who upped the mood of the night tremendously with some 'deft' moves on stage. the night was quite a laugh actually- i was witnessed the stage managers trying to wrestle erland outta stage (they thought he was some kinda maniacal-foreigner-passer by), his minders who were relieved to find him there as they were frantically looking for him after he disappeared from the artist gathering held somewhere else in the vicinity, other staff who were chasing me after they realised i sneaked gin onstage in a water bottle, and at the same time telling me to put my shirt back on. ok, maybe the last bit was for the best interest of everyone. also i've never seen so many cops during our parties...

despite these antics, looking at the people on the 'dancefloor' with their gleeful expressions really meant everything to me. it was a night i will truly cherish. i love you all!

hokay....i realised that i didn't take many pics during that night. if any of you have taken some pics for the night, and would like to share it on our website, please drop me an email. all picture credits will be given.

well... the management at Home has decided to increase their door charges a bit for Saturdays. Still within fair range I must say, tho I can predict people spending more time loading up at the coffeeshops before the action starts at the club. Bring on (not in!) the Tsingtao!

After a bit of heated discussion, the prices have been dropped and it's finally gonna happen. A Poptart Xmas Massacre @ Home, Sat 24 Dec 2005. This is our final show for the year. Many thanks to all who have been there.

Oh by the way, a lil bit of shamless plug: We were awarded 'Best New Club Night (Local)', and was runner up in 'Most Up For It Crowd' behind Zouk, in Juice Magazine's 'Best of 2005'. And the other event that I'm involved in, Amped!, was runner up in 'Best New Club Night (Local)', tho the typo (Juice mentioned the venue wrongly as 'Phuture' instead of 'DXO') made it a bit less-sweet than it should've been.

Ah well...this was definitely our year. I wonder what 2006 is gonna be like...
